This 10″ × 4.5″ specialty cartridge combines Centaur® XL catalytic carbon with KDF-85 media. It is designed as a premium upgrade over standard GAC and catalytic-carbon-only filters when broader treatment is needed for chlorine, chloramine, unpleasant odor, light-to-moderate iron concerns and selected dissolved metals.
The catalytic carbon helps reduce chlorine, chloramine, taste, odor and many common organic compounds. KDF-85 supports redox treatment of selected dissolved metals, helps address light iron and sulfur-odor concerns, and helps inhibit bacterial growth within the filter media.
Helps reduce chlorine, chloramine, unpleasant taste, unpleasant odor, mild hydrogen-sulfide odor and many common VOCs more effectively than standard activated carbon alone.
Uses an oxidation-reduction process to help reduce selected dissolved metals, support treatment of light iron and sulfur concerns, and limit bacterial growth within the media bed.
Helps Reduce Chlorine and Chloramine
Premium catalytic carbon supports broader chlorine and chloramine treatment than standard GAC.
Enhanced Rotten-Egg Odor Reduction
Helps provide stronger and more consistent treatment of light hydrogen-sulfide odor than standard activated carbon.
Helps Address Light-to-Moderate Iron
May help reduce iron-related taste, odor and discoloration under suitable water conditions.
KDF-85 Redox Treatment
Helps reduce selected dissolved heavy metals through an oxidation-reduction process.
Organic Chemical Adsorption
Helps reduce many common VOCs, solvents and trace organic compounds.
Helps Control Media Fouling
KDF-85 helps inhibit bacterial growth within the filter media; it does not disinfect the source water.
Big Blue Media Capacity
The 10″ × 4.5″ format provides more media and contact capacity than a slim cartridge.
Premium Carbon Upgrade
Best suited when chloramine, sulfur odor, light iron or selected metals are concerns beyond standard carbon treatment.
Actual performance depends on source-water chemistry, pH, contaminant concentration, pressure, flow rate, contact time and remaining media capacity.
Performance is strongest when the cartridge is preceded by sediment filtration and operated at a flow rate that provides adequate contact time.
Strong iron, persistent sulfur odor, iron bacteria, unsafe water or high hardness generally require larger dedicated treatment equipment.
