This 10″ × 4.5″ specialty cartridge uses cation-exchange resin to help reduce dissolved ferrous iron, manganese, calcium and magnesium. It is designed for clear-water iron that appears colorless at the tap but later causes orange-brown staining, metallic taste or discoloration.
The resin exchanges sodium ions for dissolved iron, manganese, calcium and magnesium as water passes through the cartridge. This helps reduce metallic taste, orange staining, hardness and scale formation in suitable low-to-moderate applications.
Helps reduce clear-water ferrous iron and dissolved manganese before they oxidize and leave stains on fixtures, sinks, toilets and laundry.
Helps reduce calcium and magnesium hardness, which may improve soap performance and lessen mineral scale in low-to-moderate hardness water.
Helps Reduce Clear-Water Iron
Targets dissolved ferrous iron that is initially clear but later causes orange-brown staining.
Helps Reduce Dissolved Manganese
Ion-exchange resin may help reduce dissolved manganese under suitable water conditions.
Provides Light Softening
Helps reduce calcium and magnesium hardness in low-to-moderate hardness applications.
Helps Reduce Rust Staining
Lower dissolved iron may help reduce staining on fixtures, sinks, toilets and laundry.
Helps Improve Metallic Taste
Reducing dissolved iron may improve iron-related taste and discoloration.
Big Blue Resin Capacity
The 10″ × 4.5″ format holds substantially more resin than a standard slim cartridge.
Actual performance depends on iron and manganese concentration, hardness, pH, flow rate, water use and remaining resin capacity.
Best suited for low-to-moderate clear-water iron and hardness. Water testing is recommended before selecting this cartridge.
Water that is already orange, red or rusty at the tap usually requires sediment filtration or dedicated oxidizing and backwashing iron treatment.

Well Water with Clear-Water Iron
Use washable sediment filtration first, followed by IRON-10BB.
Chlorinated City Water
Use sediment, then carbon, then IRON-10BB because chlorine can shorten resin life.
Iron + Scale Protection
Install SCALE-10BB after IRON-10BB when additional scale inhibition is desired.
Iron + Rotten-Egg Odor
Consider CATKDF85-10BB for light iron and sulfur concerns; severe conditions require dedicated treatment.
