Description

Advanced catalytic-carbon filtration

Centaur® catalytic carbon for chloramine, chlorine and mild sulfur-odor treatment

This 10″ × 2.5″ specialty cartridge uses Centaur® catalytic activated carbon from Calgon Carbon. It is designed as an upgrade over standard GAC when chloramine, chlorine-related taste and odor, mild hydrogen-sulfide odor, or trace iron concerns require stronger catalytic treatment.

Centaur® carbonPremium catalytic media
10″ × 2.5″Standard slim format
Up to 6–8 GPMListed maximum flow
80 PSIListed maximum pressure

What it does

Provides broader chemical and odor treatment than standard GAC

Catalytic carbon is engineered for reactions that standard activated carbon handles less efficiently, especially chloramine conversion and mild hydrogen-sulfide odor treatment.

Primary purpose

Chlorine and Chloramine Treatment

Helps reduce chlorine, chloramine, unpleasant taste, unpleasant odor, many common VOCs and selected solvents under suitable operating conditions.

Secondary purpose

Mild Sulfur Odor and Trace Iron

May help reduce mild rotten-egg odor and iron-related taste, odor or light discoloration when contaminant levels are low and the system provides adequate contact time.

Key benefits

A practical upgrade over standard granular carbon

CL

Helps Reduce Chlorine and Chloramine
Catalytic carbon provides stronger chloramine treatment than standard GAC media.

H₂S

Helps Address Mild Rotten-Egg Odor
Supports reduction of light hydrogen-sulfide odor under suitable flow and water conditions.

FE

Limited Trace-Iron Support
May help reduce iron-related taste, odor and light discoloration at low concentrations.

VOC

Organic Chemical Adsorption
Helps reduce many common VOCs, solvents and trace organic compounds.

CT

Premium Centaur® Media
Uses catalytic activated carbon manufactured by Calgon Carbon.

UP

Upgrade Over Standard GAC
Recommended when chloramine or mild sulfur odor is a concern but KDF-85 treatment is not required.

Reduction guide

What this cartridge helps reduce

Actual performance depends on source-water chemistry, pH, contaminant concentration, pressure, flow rate, contact time and remaining media capacity.

Helps reduce

Chlorine
Chloramine
Unpleasant taste
Unpleasant odor
Mild hydrogen-sulfide odor
Trace iron-related taste
Trace iron-related odor
Many common VOCs
Selected solvents

This cartridge is intended for low-level treatment in a properly sized system. Results are strongly affected by flow rate and contact time.

Not designed for

Moderate or heavy iron
Strong sulfur contamination
Hardness minerals
Manganese treatment
Fluoride
Bacteria or unsafe water
Dissolved salts / TDS

For stronger iron or sulfur treatment, consider catalytic carbon combined with KDF-85 or a dedicated backwashing treatment system.

Installation and maintenance

  • Install sediment filtration upstream whenever suspended particles are present
  • Confirm the housing accepts a standard 10″ × 2.5″ cartridge
  • Operate within the pressure, temperature and flow limits of the complete system
  • Pressurize slowly and inspect the housing for leaks after replacement
  • Flush the cartridge to drain before normal use
  • Replace when odor, taste or chloramine-treatment performance declines

Which carbon cartridge should you choose?

Standard GAC, catalytic carbon or catalytic carbon + KDF-85

GAC

GAC-10

Choose for basic chlorine, taste and odor reduction when chloramine, sulfur odor and iron are not primary concerns.

CAT

CAT-10—This Product

Choose for chloramine, stronger chemical treatment, mild sulfur odor and trace iron concerns.

CTO

Final Carbon Polishing

Add a CTO or premium coconut carbon block after CAT-10 when an additional final polishing stage is desired.

Before purchase

Good to know

!
Confirm cartridge size
This cartridge fits standard 10″ × 2.5″ slim housings and does not fit 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue housings.

!
Use sediment prefiltration
Suspended debris can shorten catalytic-carbon life and reduce treatment performance.

!
Iron treatment is limited
This cartridge is intended only for trace or low-level iron concerns and is not a primary iron filter.

!
Best for mild sulfur odor
Strong or persistent rotten-egg odor may require catalytic carbon + KDF-85 or dedicated treatment equipment.

!
Flow rate affects performance
Excessive flow reduces contact time and may reduce chloramine and odor treatment effectiveness.

!
Not a disinfectant
This cartridge does not make microbiologically unsafe or unknown-quality water safe to drink.

This product includes one replacement cartridge only. Filter housing, wrench, mounting hardware, plumbing fittings and additional filters are not included. Performance varies by water chemistry and operating conditions. This cartridge does not significantly reduce hardness or TDS.
