This 10″ × 2.5″ cartridge is filled with sodium-form cation-exchange resin—the same general type of media used in water softeners. It helps reduce clear-water ferrous iron while also exchanging calcium and magnesium hardness minerals.
As water passes through the resin, sodium ions are exchanged for dissolved ferrous iron and for the calcium and magnesium that cause hardness. This helps reduce rust staining, metallic taste and scale while protecting downstream filtration equipment.
Helps reduce clear-water iron that may leave rust stains or metallic taste after exposure to air.
Helps reduce calcium and magnesium hardness, which may lessen scale buildup on fixtures and appliances.
Helps Reduce Dissolved Iron
Targets low-to-moderate ferrous iron that is clear when drawn but may stain after exposure to air.
Softens Hard Water
Helps reduce calcium and magnesium hardness through ion exchange.
Helps Reduce Rust Staining
Lower dissolved iron may help reduce orange or brown stains on fixtures and surfaces.
Helps Reduce Metallic Taste
Reducing dissolved iron may improve iron-related taste and discoloration.
Helps Limit Scale
Hardness reduction may help decrease mineral scale on fixtures and appliances.
Protects Downstream Filters
Helps reduce iron fouling of carbon cartridges, RO membranes and plumbing components.
Actual performance depends on iron concentration, hardness, pH, pressure, flow rate, water use and remaining resin capacity.
Best suited for low-to-moderate clear-water iron and hardness. Results vary significantly with water chemistry and usage.
Orange or brown water usually contains oxidized iron and requires sediment or dedicated iron treatment. Sulfur odor and iron bacteria require different treatment methods.
