This 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue cartridge uses Centaur® XL catalytic activated carbon from Calgon Carbon. It is designed as an upgrade over standard GAC when municipal water contains chloramine or when stronger taste-and-odor treatment is needed.
Catalytic carbon is specially processed to improve reactions that ordinary activated carbon handles less efficiently. This makes it a better choice for chloraminated municipal water and other applications requiring advanced carbon treatment.
Helps reduce chlorine and chloramine while improving chlorine-related taste and odor throughout the home.
Helps adsorb many common VOCs, solvents and selected organic compounds under suitable water and flow conditions.
Helps Reduce Chlorine and Chloramine
Provides broader disinfectant treatment than standard GAC media.
Improves Taste and Odor
Helps reduce chlorine-related taste, odor and other common aesthetic concerns.
Organic Chemical Adsorption
Helps reduce many common VOCs, solvents and trace organic compounds.
High-Flow Granular Design
Supports practical whole-house flow with relatively low pressure drop.
Big Blue Capacity
The 10″ × 4.5″ format provides more media and contact capacity than slim cartridges.
Upgrade Over Standard GAC
Recommended when chloramine treatment is needed but KDF-85 media is not required.
Actual performance depends on source-water chemistry, disinfectant concentration, pressure, flow rate, contact time and remaining media capacity.
Best performance requires adequate contact time and sediment prefiltration.
Use KDF-85, bone char, softening, dedicated iron/sulfur treatment, disinfection or reverse osmosis when those goals are required.
