Centaur® XL catalytic carbon for whole-house chlorine, chloramine, taste and odor treatment

This 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue cartridge uses Centaur® XL catalytic activated carbon from Calgon Carbon. It is designed as an upgrade over standard GAC when municipal water contains chloramine or when stronger taste-and-odor treatment is needed.

How it works

Catalytic surface chemistry provides stronger chloramine treatment than standard GAC

Catalytic carbon is specially processed to improve reactions that ordinary activated carbon handles less efficiently. This makes it a better choice for chloraminated municipal water and other applications requiring advanced carbon treatment.

Installation and maintenance

Confirm Big Blue size
This cartridge fits 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue housings and does not fit standard 10″ × 2.5″ slim housings.

Use sediment prefiltration
Suspended debris can shorten catalytic-carbon life and reduce chloramine treatment performance.

Flow rate affects chloramine reduction
Excessive flow reduces contact time and can lower treatment effectiveness.

Not a metal-removal cartridge
Choose CATKDF85-10BB when selected dissolved metals or light iron are also concerns.

Does not soften water
The cartridge does not remove calcium, magnesium or dissolved hardness minerals.

Not a disinfectant
This cartridge does not make microbiologically unsafe or unknown-quality water safe to drink.

This product includes one replacement cartridge only. Filter housing, wrench, mounting hardware, plumbing fittings and additional filters are not included. Treatment performance varies with water chemistry and operating conditions. This cartridge does not significantly reduce hardness or TDS.
