This 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue cartridge uses loose granular activated carbon to provide practical whole-house chemical adsorption with less flow restriction than a dense carbon block. It is typically installed after sediment filtration as a pre-carbon stage.
As water moves through the loose carbon bed, the granular activated carbon helps adsorb chlorine and many organic compounds associated with unpleasant taste and odor.
Helps reduce chlorine, unpleasant taste, unpleasant odor and many common VOCs when operated within compatible system conditions.
Commonly installed as Stage 2 after a sediment cartridge and before an optional CTO or premium carbon block.
Granular activated carbon
Loose granular activated carbon provides broad water contact for chemical adsorption.
Big Blue format
The 10″ × 4.5″ cartridge offers more media capacity than a standard slim cartridge.
Lower flow restriction
Granular media generally allows easier flow than a dense carbon-block cartridge.
25-micron nominal rating
Designed primarily for carbon adsorption rather than fine sediment filtration.
Whole-house compatible
Fits compatible systems using standard 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue housings.
Drop-in replacement
Installs directly inside a compatible Big Blue housing.
Actual performance depends on water chemistry, chlorine level, flow rate, contact time and cartridge condition.
Reduction performance varies with source-water quality, contact time, flow rate and cartridge life.
Install sediment filtration upstream. Chloramine generally requires catalytic carbon; hardness usually requires a softener; microbiological concerns require appropriate disinfection.
