Description

High-flow Big Blue carbon filtration

25-micron GAC cartridge for whole-house chlorine, taste and odor treatment

This 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue cartridge uses loose granular activated carbon to provide practical whole-house chemical adsorption with less flow restriction than a dense carbon block. It is typically installed after sediment filtration as a pre-carbon stage.

What it does

Provides high-flow carbon adsorption for compatible whole-house systems

As water moves through the loose carbon bed, the granular activated carbon helps adsorb chlorine and many organic compounds associated with unpleasant taste and odor.

Primary purpose

Chlorine, Taste and Odor

Helps reduce chlorine, unpleasant taste, unpleasant odor and many common VOCs when operated within compatible system conditions.

Typical placement

Pre-Carbon Stage After Sediment

Commonly installed as Stage 2 after a sediment cartridge and before an optional CTO or premium carbon block.

Key benefits

High-flow carbon treatment with Big Blue capacity

GAC

Granular activated carbon
Loose granular activated carbon provides broad water contact for chemical adsorption.

BB

Big Blue format
The 10″ × 4.5″ cartridge offers more media capacity than a standard slim cartridge.

HF

Lower flow restriction
Granular media generally allows easier flow than a dense carbon-block cartridge.

25

25-micron nominal rating
Designed primarily for carbon adsorption rather than fine sediment filtration.

WH

Whole-house compatible
Fits compatible systems using standard 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue housings.

DI

Drop-in replacement
Installs directly inside a compatible Big Blue housing.

Reduction guide

What this cartridge helps reduce

Actual performance depends on water chemistry, chlorine level, flow rate, contact time and cartridge condition.

Helps reduce

Chlorine
Unpleasant taste
Unpleasant odor
Many common VOCs
Selected organic compounds

Reduction performance varies with source-water quality, contact time, flow rate and cartridge life.

Not designed to remove without specialty treatment

Fine sediment
Hardness minerals
Dissolved iron
Hydrogen sulfide
Fluoride
Chloramine
Bacteria or unsafe water
Dissolved salts / TDS

Install sediment filtration upstream. Chloramine generally requires catalytic carbon; hardness usually requires a softener; microbiological concerns require appropriate disinfection.

Installation and maintenance

  • Shut off the water supply and relieve housing pressure before opening

  • Install only in a compatible 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue housing

  • Install a sediment cartridge upstream to protect the GAC bed

  • Inspect and clean the housing sump and O-ring during replacement

  • Pressurize slowly and inspect the housing for leaks

  • Flush to drain until loose carbon fines are cleared before normal use

Good to know

!
Confirm Big Blue size
This cartridge fits 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue housings and does not fit standard 10″ × 2.5″ slim housings.

!
Always use sediment filtration first
Grit and suspended solids can shorten carbon life and cause channeling through the loose GAC bed.

!
This is not a fine sediment filter
The 25-micron rating reflects its role as a high-flow carbon-adsorption cartridge.

!
Check whether your city uses chloramine
This standard GAC cartridge is intended primarily for chlorine. Chloramine generally requires catalytic carbon.

!
Service life varies
High chlorine levels, high flow, heavy use or poor sediment prefiltration may shorten cartridge life.

!
Flush before normal use
Initial dark water may be caused by harmless carbon fines. Flush to drain until the water runs clear.

This product includes one replacement cartridge only. Filter housing, wrench, mounting bracket, plumbing fittings and additional filters are not included. It is not intended to make microbiologically unsafe or unknown-quality water safe to drink.
Not sure whether this Big Blue GAC cartridge fits your system?
